Meet the Owners of Nantucket Appraisal Company

Kara is a Certified Residential Appraiser, licensed in 2003.  She has been a year-round Nantucket resident since 1996, working with the Nantucket Land Council, a local non-profit, before beginning her real estate appraisal career.  Kara has exclusively served Nantucket during her appraisal career with extensive experience in this unique market, completing hundreds of assignments per year Island wide. She has personally built three homes on the Island and is knowledgeable about construction costs and methods.  Kara has spent her lifetime in Massachusetts, growing up in Sturbridge, prior to washing ashore on Nantucket during her college years and deciding to stay and raise her family. Kara served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard Reserves and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Kate has been a year-round resident of Nantucket since 1977. Her island roots go back to the late 1890s and her family is deeply entrenched in the island’s history and community. Kate attended the Nantucket Public Schools, graduating in 1990 with honors, and then attended the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Since 1994, Kate has worked in the Nantucket real estate industry. First as an employee of the Nantucket County Registry of Deeds, then as a broker at Denby Real Estate and finally as a certified residential real estate appraiser, licensed in 2019. Kate also ran the Nantucket Listing Service (the island's first multiple listing service) from 2000 until 2006 and today she continues operating the Nantucket Comparable Sales Service (NCS), providing monthly, cumulative, comparable sales data and statistics going back to the mid 1980s. Kate’s knowledge of the island market trends spans three decades, she has particular knowledge of and specializes in complicated ownership matters, complicated deed restrictions, conservation restrictions, easements and the like, and has some experience in expert testimony.

Kate is also member in good standing and the current Secretary of the Nantucket Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). She has raised three children who also currently live and work on the island.
